Nothing says welcome like baskets full of whipped spread. It just screams, "Eat as much as you want, you're on vacation."

Freshly made hush puppies come out next.

Open one of these babies up, dip and just feel your heart stop.

It is the welcome that makes for a great beginning to a beach trip in the South Outer Banks of North Carolina where the shrimp boats are docked right next to the restaurants where we eat.

Good thing there is enough fresh fish to make up for it. The grouper. Oh my, seriously, y'all - the grilled grouper is awesome.
