Divas

Oh Monday Monday.

I don't have much to say - just some observations from the MTV VMA's last night.
Kayne West did a terrible thing to Taylor Swift when he interrupted her acceptance speech.  Even if he thought Beyonce should have won, I think this was totally uncalled for and completely rude.

In a beautiful turn of events, Beyonce did a classy thing by giving Taylor back her moment.  I like that Beyonce.  She seems to be a smart woman and ding dang that girl can dance.

I just don't get Lady Gaga.

I think the Twilight cast is adorable and can't wait for the New Moon Movie.

I love seeing Eminem and Pink sober.  Kudos to them for working to stay sober in an industry that I am sure is plagued with addiction.

I have to say, that I am glad they disqualified Serena for getting all huffy in the U.S. Open.  I'm pretty tired of diva musicians and sports figures that make millions of dollars and throw hissy fits when they don't get their way.

Awesome win for Kim Clijsters!  Way to go to this mom of two coming back from 2 1/2 years in retirement and 18 months after having a baby!!!  Wow.

Anyway, in my real world, I have a sick child at home today and getting ready to run her to the doctor. Monday Monday.

Have a good one everyone!

Goodbye Jill...

I just heard that Farrah Fawcett died this morning with longtime love, Ryan O'Neal, by her side.

Charlie's Angels was one of my favorite show as a kid. I loved when she was on the show and played Jill. To me, she is an icon of the 70's. It's hard to believe she was 62 - I think she aged very well despite her illness. I always considered her to be a beautiful woman. That was one mega watt smile.

Much peace to those she left behind.

Watch Oprah October 28!

My good friends will be part of the Oprah show on October 28! That is tomorrow. Or today if you get this tomorrow.

Anyway, you have to watch!

The show will feature 12 amazing children and that will be in a new book with Celine Dion called 12 Heroes Among Us: An Incredible Journey with Celine Dion

Our friends have had a wonderful experience with Celine Dion as this book was being assembled. Celine and her team have been SO kind to them. There are photos and of course the stories of these incredible kids and their parents in this book. I can't wait to get a copy! I can have it autographed even!

Our friends have a sweet, smart, strong little girl named Anna. She is my daughter's age and they are good buddies.

You can read all about Anna's story and her part in the book right here. She is a miracle. Literally a walking miracle.

I remember when her mom was pregnant. I was pregnant at the same time. We had just both moved into our neighborhood and not yet met. I heard through the grapevine that her baby had Spina Bifida. My heart broke for this new mom because I too was going to be a new mom and just knew how this news would make me feel.

Like everything she does, she handled it with the most amazing grace. Later, after our babies were born, I would become good friends with Anna's mom. She has been a true blessing in my life! She went on to have 3 more children and continues to amaze me daily. They are a family full of faith and I have been privileged to witness their walk.

So they tell me there are some great stories that Oprah is going to feature tomorrow. Click here to see a slide show preview.

So, check your local listings, watch some Oprah, grab some tissues and take a break.
Raleigh - ABC 11 at 4 pm.

Let me know what you think!

Just a TV

Hubby has been wanting a new TV for months. You know the ones: Flat, LCD - rectangle and does not fit in your really nice mahogany armoire that your other TV is housed in.

I have been resistant to the idea of a new TV for months because I knew that the new ones would not fit in our armoire in the family room. I love the armoire because when we are not watching television, I can just close it up and not have the TV as the center of attention in the room. We searched high and low for the right color when we first decorated our family room 8 years ago. We ordered a nice one because we just new we would have it for years.

Yeah, tell that to the TV manufacturers.

I finally gave in this weekend because I really didn't have a better plan for Father's Day except breakfast in bed. The kids gave him a new fishing pole, but it was too hot this weekend for fishing.

And he is the Dad. He should get to buy toys once in awhile, too.

So, I gave in.

He went shopping Saturday morning and found a super deal on a large LCD panel TV.

Of course it will not fit in the armoire and we already knew that so I headed a different direction to find a piece of furniture that would hold the new TV.

I won a gift card to Target from Beachy Mimi a couple weeks ago and I figured this would be a great thing to spend it on. Thanks Beachy Mimi!
So, I go to get the new entertainment center.
My brother and hubby move the old one out into the garage temporarily and it is HEAVY and they are telling me all about it.

Hubby puts the new entertainment center together and our CD/DVD player does not fit in the little compartments that are meant for these sort of objects.

I go back to Target to get the matching shelf to house all the components. DVR, DVD player, etc. Of course, you have to have a matching shelf on each side of the TV stand, so I get two shelves.

He puts them together.

The components still don't fit. Of course they don't.

Then I remember that the DVD player is not working right anyway.

That was all Hubby had to hear to head to go and buy himself a new surround sound DVD player.
It fit.
Very good.

We also have to exchange our current DVR player for an HD-DVR. Luckily, the cable company is running a special right now and will upgrade that free. At least, something is free in this whole deal.

So, what happened to the old entertainment center? Well, at first I thought I would just sell it and then I went on Craig's List to look at how much they were selling for. Guess what? Nobody is buying them because the new TV's don't fit in them.

So, I decided to put it in our bonus room and get rid of the cheaper KMart entertainment center in there. Which worked out well, because the TV that we moved from downstairs to the bonus room does not fit in this cheaper entertainment center anyway.

The only problem? It is huge and we have this crazy staircase with a corner right in the middle.

So, my brother and hubby had to take it apart to move it. And it was HEAVY. So, heavy. They cried all night long about how heavy that thing was. And this morning. Still crying.

Now my house is a complete disaster. Nothing is in it's place.

The new TV is the center of attention in my family room. No longer can I close it up. And it sets the whole room up differently. I need help with this room now. I am considering hanging the TV on the wall. I never thought I would do that: Hang a TV on the wall. It will become a focal point of this room - directly across from the fireplace. So, I need to get some creative juices flowing for sure.

The old entertainment center is huge and sets all the furniture off kilter in the bonus room, so I have to figure out what to do what that room now.

All for a new TV. Just a TV.

Some things on my mind

I really do hope for my blog to be a place to come and be encouraged, but I gotta vent some things!

1. Season Finales. I don't watch much TV anymore. I really just don't have time. Blogging, reading, catching up on housework and emails, etc. etc. The list never ends. BUT, I do have a couple favorites that I enjoy watching when I need to veg out.

I get that they need to have Season Finales eventually, but since they just started up because of the writer's strike don't you think they would give us a couple weeks more of new shows? It is already ridiculous how the shows have gone to about 13 per season while being paid a million dollars an episode, but now we don't even get that!

And what happened to the Season Premier of "24" ? Where is Kiefer?

2. Love angst on my favorite shows. I know it keeps it exciting and you will come back to watch more, but why can't these people just be happy? Why is McDreamy taking up with Rose when he clearly is still in love with Meredith? Why why why?

3. Politicians and the fact that they need my money? What? I mean really - we are talking about millionaires here that need my donation to keep their campaign going. For what? So, we can continue to hear them debate the same things and mud sling. It absolutely infuriates me. I can promise you this if any candidate is reading. I will NEVER send money to any campaign unless I really believe in the candidate and they are dirt poor. Right - a poor politician, that's an oxymoron. Any extra money I have will go to the church and the hungry. Or build wells in Africa. Or sponsor a child.

4. Exercise and Food. Speaking of hungry...Why the more I work out, the hungrier I am? I know, I know. My body needs the energy, but hello, I am trying to lose some weight here which is one of the reasons why I work out. AND THEN, I am starving and need more food.

Which reminds me of another reason why I exercise. To relieve stress. Which is where I am going now - to cycling class.

Please share your comments on these things that are bothering me. Maybe you have some wisdom - please share.
