2009 in One Word

a⋅ware

1. having knowledge; conscious; cognizant
2. informed; alert; knowledgeable;

My friend Chris sent me an email the other day that said this....

In lieu of a New Years Resolution - use one word to describe 2009

She got the idea from the Compassion Blog.

Her word is... “GO!”

Merriam-Webster’s Definition: To proceed without delay often in a thoughtless manner.

Chris' Definition: To proceed without delay while not over-thinking; moving forward with radical obedience.

Okay, so I am definitely game for this.

Mine is AWARE.

Dictionary.com defines it as: having knowledge, conscious, cognizant, alert

Janel defines it like this: To pay closer attention to the things and moments I might not otherwise. To be conscious of what is happening outside of me.

Using it in my life looks like this.

Make me aware...

  • Aware of how my husband and children feel when I am make them late.
  • Aware of the guy standing on the corner with a homeless sign.
  • Aware of a neighbor who I have not seen for a week or so.
  • Aware of the joy that my children bring to my life.
  • Aware of my blessings.
  • Aware of the moment my husband walks in the door.
  • Aware of that quiet voice that tells me to ACT, MOVE, GO,TELL
  • Aware that there is a world outside of my own.
  • Aware that friendship is a precious gift to take care of.
  • Aware of the privilege of having a mother that lives 5 minutes from me.
  • Aware that I could go on and on....

Your Turn. One Word for 2009.

Perfect word. I chose the word peace. I am loving this idea, and enjoying finding other people's.

Have a great day.

Mine would be TRY. No matter how hard it is, no matter how discouraged I may feel, no matter how impossible it may seem, no matter if I have to do it alone, just...try.
