Thankful For Today, Hope For Tomorrow

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

I'm reading a book called Ruthless Trust. Written by a guy named Brennan Manning - a leader in spiritual teaching.- a recovering alcoholic also, although it is definitely not what defines him.   He is a man of God for sure.   He also wrote an excellent book called Ragamuffin Gospel.

Anyway, he is speaking in this one chapter on gratefulness.

And he shares a quote...

"There are only two choices: integration and acceptance of our whole life-story, or despair."

For all things give thanks to God, because this is what God expects you to do in Christ Jesus (1 Thess 5:18)

And so yes, today I am thankful for a husband that smiles and kisses me good morning and finds purpose in this day. For in-laws that traveled to be with my kids this week while I work.  For amazing kids who laugh and love us all with such unfiltered, unconditional love.

For pumpkins and cool weather. For fresh coffee. And for you.

Just for today, we live our lives. We don't know what tomorrow brings but I will have faith in my God. Trust Him and keep on truckin. I choose not to despair but to find my hope in what I know for certain - that God is ALWAYS good. I will be thankful for today and for the growth it provides for tomorrow. Through our suffering we grow closer to God and that is what life is all about - to grow closer to Him.

Read that same verse with Rachel in her devotion tonight. Hmmm...that usually means God is telling me something. :)
