Sincerely 'Fro Me to You - Modeling Career

My Modeling Career

I think this blog needs a little levity today. I sure could use it.

I am participating in a little bloggy carnival over at We are THAT Family.

So, the story behind this photo?

My mom signed me up for "modeling school." I went to Barbizon Modeling school when I was about 15 and learned how to apply make-up, walk with a book on my head and everything I needed to know about the fashion world of 1985. Big Hair was pretty much the fashion.

As I graduated from this school, we were told we needed head shots so they could get us started in our modeling careers right away! Yeah, right.

Anyway, I lived in a small town at the time and getting real modeling head shots was just not an option. So, I went to the most professional photographer in town at the time and he took this portrait shot of me.

The ladies at the modeling school were so impressed! Not really and needless to say, my phone did not ring off the hook for magazine spreads.

But my mom loved this shot.

Especially since I had her shirt on.

I look back at the girl who had dreams of modeling and walking on runways. But being a teenager got in the way of that and actually, for that I am very happy. I enjoyed being a teenager and feel certain modeling was not my calling. I did learn some very useful tools at that school, though and look back on my time there with fond memories.

So, here it is - my 'fro. My past. Laugh if you want. I do every time I look at that shirt and my hair.

Recently we took old photos to my book club. They laughed. We all laughed at each other's photos. It was a blast.

Thanks Kristen for hosting this today. I needed the fun!

Go check it out and join in the fun!

Oh my goodness! That is hilarious! I think my Mom had the same shirt! Seriously. And your makeup is splendid. I only hoped for hair so poofy and pretty! I LOVE it. Thanks so much for participating!

My biggest question is why did they not teach me about plucking my eyebrows?????

I could have used some help in that department for sure

You are so beautiful but I really want to brush your hair.

Yes, brushing your hair was not the cool thing to do. It was more about scrunching it!

Sometimes I hot rolled it and then it was Really big!

Oh my goodness gracious. I went to Barbizon Modeling School in Memphis TN when I was 15. I ended up becoming employed by them and worked as an instructor, then a director, then a new faces agent until I was 23. I quit when I found out I was prego with my first child!!! We will have to chat more at She Speaks! Can't wait to meet you!

I went to the Barbizon Modeling School here in Raleigh when I was in high school. As soon as they told me I needed to wear a lot more makeup and to pluck my eyebrows to skinny little things.......... I was out of there and never looked back. I haven't thought of that experience in many years! If I find the headshot I will bring it to bible study sometime - ha!
