What I Learned This Week - The Pool Opens in Less Than 2 Months

I learned that if you don't exercise on a regular basis and join your husband (every single night) in his new found love for ice cream that you will gain weight.

I could tell that my clothes were getting tighter. Actually, that is an understatement. I seriously cannot fit in to a couple pairs of my favorite jeans. As it warms up here in North Carolina and I start to pull out my Spring pieces, I am finding that many of them are not fitting well.

I carry my weight really well, actually. It sneaks up on me where I can't even tell I've gained. That is until my clothes don't fit anymore. Then it's kinda hard to deny.

At first I blamed it on my dryer. Surely it was shrinking all my clothes.

Then I rationalized that I just was not working out and probably became a little loosey goosey.

Then I got on the scale. The kids must have been messing with that thing.

Then I got another reminder from my doctor that my annual appointment is due and it occurred to me that I was putting it off so that I did not have to get on his scale. You know, the one that tells you the truth.

I'm just not brave enough to tell you how much weight I have gained since August. Since my high school reunion. Yeah, I wish I had one of those every year - I might just stay in shape. Let's just say it's about the weight of a very small child or a medium size dog. On my 5 foot 6 inch frame. Not Good.

So, I joined Weight Watchers this morning and am committing to being back in the gym. My beautiful haven of a gym that I don't take nearly enough advantage of.

I loathe. I detest. I despise. I just plain and simply hate dieting.

I love. I relish in. I heart. I just plain and simply delight in food.

This is going to be hard but it really must be done. The pool opens in less than 2 months and I feel like poo poo right now.

Extra weight makes me tired and cranky and unmotivated. So, because I NEED to do this - I'm telling you and I will keep you posted.

Nothing like accountability.

I need the WW to help me gain focus on portions and getting back to healthier choices. It's all about habits and I've gotten into some pretty bad habits. I really just need a shift there.

So, tell me if you have done Weight Watchers - do you have a favorite recipe?

I now find myself with a craving for ice cream!
Good luck! You can totally do this!

I am a life-timer. And believe me, I will be fighting this thing the rest of my life! My best tip from W/W was the expression "FIDO" - if you mess up one day, "Forget It and Drive On!". "Don't let a lapse become a collapse!" Helps me get back on track after messing up!

This is one of the reasons that I didn't attend the HS reunion.
Good luck with WW. It's a great program. I might just have to check it out again, myself. I've got to drop 15 lbs. before summer, or I'm not wearing shorts!
Good luck!!!!!

Good luck! I started South Beach diet last Monday and I've dropped 4 lbs already--yay! It also helps that I finally cleaned off my treadmill!

Wishing you luck on WW. I've had success with it before. I just really can't afford to spend money on a weight loss plan right now. It's the old fashioned way or no way.

I've learned that the dryer is not the problem, too. Wish it was....

I'm with you Janel. I had a Dr's appt today and the scale was so not my friend. So my lunch for today is an apple and a yogurt. I will have to seriously resist all of the Easter candy that is in this house right now.
Good luck with WW. I have signed up for the WW online - I'm just not a consistent user of it. I will need to get better. We will have to compare notes.

I hate the scale but the Wii Fit is worse. It makes comments about how much weight you've gained. As annoying as it is, it does keep me on my toes.

You go girl! I did WW when S was little and lost 23lbs in less than 3 months. It definitely works, but you have to exercise along with it. I recently started the "couch to 5k" program and am feeling a lot stronger. (unfortunately, I haven't been watching the eating so the weight is not really going down.)

You can do it! I'm on the weight loss trail with you. Favorite WW recipe: Salsa Chicken

6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup salsa
1 package low sodium taco seasoning

Cook together in a crockpot on high for 3 hours or on low for 5 hours.
Serve the chicken however you want--whole chicken breasts, shredded for salad or tacos, shredded plain. Yummy!
I mix 1/2 cup fat free sour cream into the juices left in the crockpot and serve it is sauce or dressing. It's delicious, and is 0 points on the core plan, or 4 points on the traditional plan.

Drink lots of water!
Baby carrots and celery stickes dipped in hummus are a great, healthy, low-cal snack, too.

As the saying goes, "knowledge is power." So use that knowledge to empower yourself to take one day at a time and do better!

My husband had "pregnancy sympathy pains" and didn't gain an ounce. He indulged in all the nachos he could eat (along with me!) and ...nothing. Not fair.

So, I guess I can't blame the clothes dryer anymore for my jeans being a bit tighter, damn.

I could have written this post but at least you're taking action with WW. I started shredding again and stopped eating after dinner...haven't noticed much but just the beginning. Good luck! I'm rooting for you.

I could have written this post. I have gained 10 lbs this winter and I'm MISERABLE about it. I joined Jenny Craig yesterday. Yep. I know it's extreme, but extreme is what I need to get back on track. I love JC b/c it's so easy. They give you what you can eat -- no counting calories, no planning, no grocery shopping except for salad fixins and yogurt and veggies to fill in.

Good luck on WW! Perhaps together we can get back in our jeans in a few weeks! :-)
