Where My Heart Rides Away

Tinted windows make it hard for me to see the faces inside.

The driver waits for the activity to die down before she pulls away from the curb.

I'm just staring and waving at faces I cannot see. Hoping for a couple just to see me.

Then I see him.

He must be on his knees because I see his whole face now.

He is waving to me. Smiling.

My heart leaps out of my chest.

I wave back. Smile back. Blow some kisses.

He blows some back.

He waves again.

Suddenly, I only see the top of his head. I'm sure the driver has told him to sit down now.

Then, she pulls off and just like that my heart rides away in a big yellow bus.

Sending my son to Kindergarten has just caused a flurry of different emotions to flood me.   He is my youngest, so I wonder what I will do now with all my extra time.  Other moms tell me not to worry about that - that I will fill it up.   Am I still valuable as a stay at home mom?  I know better, but since we are being honest here - it's a thought.   Should I get a job?  I mean a job that pays me actual green money.    Is he going to be okay without me?  (yeah, right!)   Should I have another baby!?!?!  ack!

How about you?  Was sending your baby away to Kindergarten difficult for you?   Or were you dancing around your house the minute the bus pulled away from the curb?   Please share your experience.

That is so sweet. It's so true what they say when you have kids, it's like wearing your heart outside. I hope the day went by fast for you. He looks pretty happy to be going to school.

This is so sweet, Janel. My kiddos start school tomorrow. It will be bittersweet.

Loved this post...it made me teary-eyed. My daughter started 'big girl' school this week and she was so excited (even if I was so anxious)!

Great post! Ella was so ready but she still looks so small getting on that big school bus in the morning.

Love this post. It reminds me that they will always be our babies... they just happen to get bigger and bigger. Such crazy emotions those kids give us!!! Who ever thought that would happen when you become a parent!

Janel- Your post sure brought back the memories. That was certainly a tougher day for me and my husband than it was for my daughter. My daughter was so excited to be going to school like her big brother!

My heart leaves on a yellow bus, too! Seeing her smile on it is the sweetest feeling!
