What I Learned with 5 Weeks of Track-Out!

I am joining in on the fun with Jo-Lynne and friends at the What I Learned This Week carnival! I'm excited to reflect back on my week to see what I can learn rather than plowing on through to the next week without even looking back. So, the object of this carnival is just to post something about my past week or so that can be serious, silly, long, short, profound - just family friendly. Okay, so here goes...

I learned that 5 weeks off of school is way too long for this mama.

I've mentioned before that we are in year round school. Our particular track happens to have a "track out" right after the Christmas break which means about 5 weeks of no school for my sweet girl.

Oh, she is sweet. Today we went to breakfast to celebrate her last day of track out.

But I do think she is bored now and it is time to go back to school. For both of us.

I loved the time with her home and the later mornings. I have to admit I will miss those.

I just feel like I have been on vacation for 5 weeks since we don't have to be anywhere until after 9:00 on any morning. Thank goodness my son is back in preschool or we really would be in trouble.

I think next year when both kids are in school full time and tracked out for this long that I will need to find something with a little more structure for them like a track out camp.

So, tomorrow we track back in for 9 weeks and now my son is in preschool for 5 mornings a week! I better learn to be good with my time or my next What I Learned post will be something like, "I learned that you can waste a lot of time when the kids are in school."

Here is to being productive!

Visit Jo-Lynne's first What I Learned This Week Carnival and check out what other bloggers are learning! There is some good lessons there.

I'm feeling your "too much time off" pain. S is on track 3, so she was supposed to be in for 3 1/2 weeks in Jan, but last week between snow days and sick days she only went one day and it was on a 2 hr delay. Today is her last day before she's tracked out for the next three weeks. Wish me luck!

I feel your pain. We had 3 of 5 days off last week. Tomorrow might be snow day, if it ever starts.

Take care,

I can so relate to that! When we're off the structured daily school schedule, I start to flounder. I'm so much less productive -- even the weekends can be challenging for me.

Now that my kids are finally recovering from the virus we had, we are slowly getting back to our normal routine. It feels great to slip back into it -- kind of like an old, comfy shoe. I love it! :)

I always wanted to be in year round school... better for vacations. My oldest won't start preschool till next year... IF he is potty trained... so it will be 3 more years!

5 weeks is a LONG time to be out of school!!! At least, in the wintertime. I don't think I'd like year round school for that reason.

Thanks so much for participating! :-)

I'm glad we are still traditional calendar. I would probably lose my mind. I know it would be really hard on my Hannah, she doesnt like going to school 5 d/wk and takes a while to readjust after just one day or 1 wk off.

I crave routine so when it's a long weekend, everyone gets off-kilter. Hope you all are back on track soon.

I learned the lesson about wasting time with kids in school! It's a hard one to learn, especially when you look back and wonder what happened to the day!

Glad you got to celebrate with breakfast of the last day - with the celebration meaning different things to each of you!

When the schedule gets shifted like that our days become a mess!

A friend of mine has year round school with her kids. She loves it. I'm not sure how I'd feel! right now 5 weeks off sounds good to me!
